Principal's Message

Greetings from Lamesa High School, the top academic performing school in district 1-AAAA!  My name is Jerry Jerabek and I am very proud to be the principal of LHS.  My mission is to improve the lives of my students every day by opening the doors of opportunity to them.  Lamesa High School is a school on the rise with a caring, dedicated staff who are committed to growing our students into young adults who can win in the competitive world they will live in as adults.  We are blessed by a supportive community that has recently approved a bond initiative that will complete the renovations on our school and find us with a new Career and Technology center, upgraded science labs, modernized library, new on site competition gym/special ed facilities/Success Academy and fully renovated classrooms and building in the next few years.  These are truly exciting times to be a Golden Tornado!

My belief in the power of high expectations has grown in recent years and leads me to a “no excuses” philosophy of education.  By that, I mean that while I do not accept student excuses and believe in holding them accountable to high standards of effort and behavior, I more fiercely hold to not allowing excuses from my staff.  We must own the successes and failures of our students completely.  I believe it is ultimately the adults in the school that will determine the success level of our students.  We will start working with them wherever they are at present and then push them from there toward their highest potential.  My previous school was named a Texas Honor Roll School for significantly reducing the gaps in performance between all groups (both ethnic & socio-economic) and I firmly believe that not allowing adult excuses was the key factor in accomplishing equitable opportunity for all my students.

Personally, I am a 27 year educator in my 16th year as a school administrator in what I believe to be the noblest of all professions.  I was born and raised in Minnesota but landed in west Texas as a student at Lubbock Christian University where I earned my Bachelor’s in Education.  I also met my wife, Amy, at LCU which is what kept me in West Texas initially.  I taught math, English, theater, public speaking and coached tennis for a dozen years at New Deal MS, Frenship HS & Rancho Santa Fe MS.  I earned my first Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology at National University while living in San Diego and teaching/coaching in Rancho Santa Fe.  This lead to me becoming the District Math Chairperson for Rancho Santa Fe Schools for my final 2 years there.  Amy and I decided our 5 year “vacation” in Southern California was over, so we moved back to west Texas due to the strength of the schools for the sake of our 2 children, Chelsea and Christopher (now 22 & 19).  I earned a Master’s in Educational Administration at LCU and have spent the last 13 years as the principal of Frenship Middle School.  In 2018, I was named the HEB Secondary Principal of the Year for the state of Texas, but I consider the success of my own faithful children in their young adult lives to be my greatest blessing in life.  My prayer and goal is to open similar doors of opportunity for the students of Lamesa High School until I retire!
